Initiate countdown!

9 more days until I leave everything behind. My job, my friends, my cat and my apartment. I do not know what I am feeling right now. It is all a ball of mixed emotions.

Nervous.

Totally have no idea what to expect from what is to come. Will I be able to cope with traveling alone? Will I make friends easily out there? Will I run out of money fast? These are the questions running through my head. I am feeling extremely anxious. But I guess this is normal to feel especially prior to embarking on a journey this large-scale. At least that is what the millions of blogs I’ve been reading the past couple of months tell me.

I flew to Kuala Lumpur last week to meet my sister Finah. She had traveled across Australia and New Zealand for the past 8 months and was in Kuala Lumpur for a week on transit before flying to Germany. I shared my concerns and anxiety with her and she laughed. “You will have the best time of your life,” she said. She also told me not to be too worried about finances. Money can be easily earned anywhere. True.

As a safety precaution, I did secure myself a writing gig for the local newspaper as a travel writer. The money is not huge but enough to get me through 2 weeks in Asia per article. As I will be writing 2 articles per month, hopefully my savings will be untouched.
I am also sad to be leaving the place that has been home to me for the past 27 years. I have no idea how long I intend to be away but I am on a journey to find a new place to call home. I guess I do believe that I will find it, hence my feeling sad for leaving.

Despite the anxiety and sadness, I am also extremely excited of what is to come and the unknown. As mentioned earlier, I have no idea how things are going to unfold but that excites me. The people I will meet, the food I will eat, the beaches I will sunbake on and even the obstacles I will have to push through. Ohh, the things that I will learn and the skills that I will gain.

What adventures lie ahead of me? Not knowing gives me that good tingling feeling.

I had originally planned on exploring Borneo first but the airline I worked for apparently allows me to claim my travel benefits for up to a month after my date of resignation. That means I can still fly for cheap until August 31st. So my plan now is to fly to Manila, Philippines first and explore the country for 20 days before I fly to Kuala Lumpur. From there, the plan is to travel by land all across mainland Southeast Asia. How long that will take, I do not know but that is the beauty of not having a time frame or a fixed plan. I have the intention to travel through India after SEA but lets not dwell on that just yet.

Everything back home is almost settled. I just need to get my final vaccination done, my passport renewed and store away what is left of my possessions.

Everything is coming together perfectly it amazes me. Therefore with that the countdown has started. 9 more days!
